The food, drinks, and service at San Benito Cantina are amazing! My cousin and I stopped in for some margaritas and chips with pico and guacamole. We ended up having several margaritas because the weather was so nice and the service by Spencer was unmatched!!! We are locals, and love coming here and will continue to keep coming here because of the service, and food, and drinks. If you're looking for somewhere to go in Half Moon Bay, San Benito Cantina has an amazing outdoor space.
After a round of golf @ HMB Golf Links, we wanted to get some dinner before we made the trek back up to Sonoma County. Not knowing the area, we decided to drive down Main St and find somewhere to stop. Welp, guess what we found? There was a line out the door, we were worried there'd be a long wait for a table. Come to find out, you place your orders at the bar, get your number and find a seat and wait for your food to show up. There were several beers on tap, local and mass produced. It was Taco Tuesday, they had a fairly inexpensive (but good) Mexican beer for $3. Everyone else in the group got the Taco Tuesday special, three street tacos for $8 (choice of meat) and chips/salsa. I went in another direction and got the California burrito and elote. We sat outside on a beautiful early spring evening. The place was hopping. Several families w/ their children running around on the lower seating / grass area. It was actually nice to see the place so vibrant. It appeared the place was dog friendly as well, as I saw many pups chilling w/ their peeps. Our food arrived, first chips and salsa. Outstanding! Then other appetizers. My elote was quite good. I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't expecting three halves of corn. Then my burrito showed up. I had a CA burrito a couple times before at other locations and the over-abundance of fries ruined the dried out burrito (so not sure why I ordered one here). This was a good sized burrito with a lot of carnitas and ample amount of guac, pico & sour cream that didn't dry out the burrito w/ the added fries. It was one of the best burritos I've had in quite some time. The other guys in the group raved about their street tacos. Everything seemed to hit the spot for us. I can see why this place was so busy. Fun atmosphere to go along with good food. This place is a winner!
For a Birthday lunch: Some of us wanted a Guinness--always extra chilled and poured correctly--with our Mexican food selection. A few of us wanted sandwiches, others wanted probably the best Butternut Squash (yes I know I'm capitalizing the squash's name) soup any of us has had (and we are major foodies). To the side but connected to the "House" a few of us ordered sandwiches. I'm not going to tell but this place is the only place several of us know that serves a special (incredibly simple) sandwich. So what else is there to say? Miss it and you lose
Got so lucky finding this hidden not so hidden gem in downtown half moon bay. It was superbowl Sunday and really wanted an amazing burrito. Location in downtown is so pretty with amazing lights dangling along the sidewalks and plenty of street parking. To my amazement this establishment had an amazing selection of non-artificial tequilas. I had to try its hard to find great selection. We tried the Fortaleza blanco and Arete anejo. Great sipping tequilas. The burrito was fresh and delicious, can't say enough about it. Restaurant is very spacious and has an amazing outdoor seating area.
Just popped in here while passing thru town with the family. What an amazing surprise! We were greeted at the bar in a friendly manner. He provided some suggestions for food and drink. Walking back past the bar we noticed it opened up to even more seating with heaters and a grass area for families. The drinks and food were delicious. We look forward to trying more menu items next time we are in town.
-- belated review from the drafts -- Absolutely love the ambiance and space of this restaurant! After ordering and paying for food at the bar, my friends and I found a table in the back on the patio. It's so spacious and gorgeous! We were surrounded by plants and there was a fireplace as well. A live band was playing as well and I could see kids dancing on the lawn in front of them and playing in the garden. This place felt like a home away from home -- warm, inviting, and accepting! The food was quite good as well & well-portioned. I got a Mission Style burrito with carne asada and I still had half of it for dinner! I didn't try any of the drinks but they had a variety of beers and margaritas to order as well.
Came here for a quick bite. Got a mango margarita and "street tacos" (carne asada x2, carnitas x1). It was delicious and hit the spot. Plenty of seating and free wifi.
Great spot to get yummy food whilst soaking up sunshine. Their outdoor seating area is big yet also cozy and relaxed. Mix of Mexican and American cuisine which I'm sure makes everyone very happy. We ordered: - Chips, Salsa and Guac: great portions, well spiced, really fresh, delicious. - Mission Style Bowl: Big portion, again well seasoned and fresh - Street style tacos vegetarian: hit the spot but could potentially be upgraded a tad from shredded cabbage and corn to perhaps fried avocado or cauliflower. I'm glad I ordered the rice and beans with us because would have been a tad dull without it. - Impossible burger (previous visit): yummy, though remember it all fell apart fast but maybe that's just me being a messy eater ahem Lots of cocktail and beer options, friendly service. The ordering at the bar can get a tad awkward as you're just standing there but they are friendly. We had to wait 20ish minutes for our order to come out but all was fresh and definitely worth it.
